Hvy. & Lt. 160 Cup Races Highlight NCQMA Saturday Action

The NCQMA track in Salisbury brought a little extra excitement for the competitors and fans on Saturday as they held the “Cup” races for the two 160 classes. With the coveted “Cup” trophies at stake for the podium finishers, it was, no doubt, going to bring out the best in these drivers.

The eleven-race schedule opened with the Hvy. 160 Cup race and the four-car field had their sights on the big prize. Macy Currie took the early lead after passing polesitter Abigail Kenney on the second lap of the 35-lap feature. Currie had the car to beat in the first half of the race until she went for a spin coming out of turn 4 with 17 laps remaining, bringing out the caution. On the restart it was Jacob Borst at the point as the green flag waved, and it was now Borst being “Chased” by Chase Anderson in the second spot. Borst gradually pulled away from Anderson but with 7 laps to go, Anderson found a slick spot in turn 4 and went for a one-car spin, bringing out the caution flag. That wiped away Borst’s lead and put the fours cars bumper to bumper to settle this one. Borst continued to show his strength as he pulled away from the field to take the checkers and the first place “Cup” trophy. Currie fought her way back up to second and Anderson rounded out the top three. What a way to start the day!!
